Diane Woodroffe taught Accounting for the last 39 years prior to leaving to pursue
her passion for teacher and learner support in the country. She has been actively
involved in the development and implementation of the various curricula and is
presently involved with moderation of examinations. SAICA has made use of her
training skills on many occasions to offer training courses to teachers in the classroom
in several parts of the country. She is also the present examiner of the SAICA Olympiad.
This experience is evident in the textbook series that she is very involved with.

Mohamed Hanif Aboobaker is a retired education specialist with 38 years of experience. He
holds a honours B com (S.A) degree in Accounting as well as a Senior teaching diploma. He
moved through the ranks as teacher – Lecturer- Inspector- Director- and finally retired as
Chief Director of Education in Pietermaritzburg. He has vast experience in accounting and
assessment issues and has held various positions in the national curriculum level. He has
presented many accounting orientation courses and workshops and has been involved in many
publications.

Pravin Singh has taught Accounting up to senior level over the past 45 years. He was Head
of Department in Commerce for 13 years. Although he spent most of his years at State
schools he also had the privilege of teaching Accounting at some well-known private schools.
He has been a sub-examiner, senior sub-examiner and internal moderator in the matric
examinations marking panel. His revision manual called;Taskmaster; has been widely used
by many educators and learners. He is still actively involved in the development of Accounting
material and plays a pivotal role in the development of textbook material.

Poobie Govender is a well-known leader in Accounting at provincial and national levels as
well as being an educator (Head of Department) at East London Secondary School. His ability
and talent has been recently recognised in his promotion as Subject Advisor in the Eastern Cape.
He has aB. Paed IV (Commerce) degree and 27 years; experience in the teaching of Accounting,
Economics and Business Studies in the FET Phase. He has also taught EMS (Grades 7 – 9)
and Mathematics in the GET Phase. His involvement in the EC Province includes extensive
involvement in the marking process since 1998 to the current provincial internal moderator.
He has been involved with the development of formal and informal assessment tasks for the
East London District as well as for the EC Province and has facilitated content workshops at
different districts within the EC Province.  Poobie is involved at National level with curriculum
related matters as well as school based formative assessment tasks. The textbook panel has
benefitted from this wealth of experience and knowledge.

Piet Fouche has a B.Com and a B.Ed but worked for external auditors prior to becoming a
teacher and has therefore always been able to bridge the gap between what is taught and
what is the real “business world”. He taught at a school in Parys and when he finally left after
25 years he was the deputy principal. He then took up a position as subject advisor for the
Free State. Having served as an examiner and moderator for the province his ability was then
recognised and he is now fully involved in the development of formal and informal
assessment at a national level. He brings this wealth of knowledge and experience to the
textbook panel.

I have been involved in mathematics education for the last 32 years.  I have taught mathematics in a public school for 28 years and in a private school for 4 years where I am currently the Head of mathematics.  I lectured at the University of KwaZulu Natal for 6 years (part-time) lecturing to In-service teachers in the FET phase.  This also required me to be an examiner for the university and I was also involved in moderation of university exam papers.  I have been involved with UMALUSI in various roles, as a Quality Assurer, Evaluating CAPs for Mathematical Literacy and providing input for a new subject Quantitative Literacy for NASCA.  I have written the Curriculum Statements for NASCA on behalf of DHET and also wrote the workbook for NASCA.  I have conducted extensive research in mathematics education eventually culminating in my PhD degree.  Also wrote two journal articles relating to the status of Mathematical Literacy in South Africa.   Involved in curriculum writing for UKZN, DHET and CASME.  Have quality assured Mathematical Literacy examination papers since 2010 for the various examining bodies, viz. DBE, SACAI and IEB.

Linda has been involved in Mathematics education for the last 38 years and has taught Mathematics in a public school for 37 years and Mathematical Literacy since its inception in 2006. She is currently teaching Mathematics and Mathematical Literacy in an ex Model C School and has been involved with Kwa Zulu Natal Department of Education in various roles, amongst others as Examiner and  Moderator of Mathematics and Mathematical Literacy and Chief Marker from 1996 to 2010.

She has been Chief examiner for the National Department of Basic Education and subsequently at its inception in 2008 became the moderator of Mathematical Literacy.

Amongst other roles she has chaired the National Marking Guideline meetings in Pretoria from 2008 to date; written the workbook for NASCA on behalf of DHET, presented many workshops on the teaching of Mathematical Literacy and the preparation of candidates for examinations and has now put all this expertise into writing the New Era Guideline document for Mathematical Literacy.
